News: Tire Recycling & Pyrolysis

Continental, a premium tyre manufacturer, is consistently expanding its activities in the area of circular economy. To this end, the premium tire manufacturer has signed a development agreement with Pyrum Innovations, a specialist in the pyrolysis of end-of-life tires.

The Association of Natural Rubber Producing Countries (ANRPC) says that the global outlook of natural rubber (NR) market stays positive in 2022. The world production is expected to grow by 1.9% at 14.107 million tons while the world consumption is expected a moderate growth at 1.2% to 14.232 million tons during 2022.

The Tasmanian Government is increasing the use of recycled rubber from truck tires in road resurfacing this year as part of its commitment to waste reduction and supporting a circular economy.

Tire Stewardship BC (TSBC), a not-for-profit group dedicated to the collection and recycling of scrap tires in British Columbia, is celebrating that their scrap tire program has been recycling tires for over 30 years. Since the scrap tire recycling program was first established in B.C. in 1991, over 100 million tires have been recycled in the province.

Prior to the conflict, tire recycling was not a major focus in Ukraine, with just 10% of the 180,000-200,000 tons of end-of-life tires recycled each year. According to German surveys, until recently, the vast majority of all Ukrainian garbage was delivered to landfills.

Wastefront AS, the Norwegian waste tire recycling company, has announced a strategic partnership with innovative EV tire company ENSO, which will see ENSO incorporate Wastefront’s recycled carbon black (rCB) in its tires from 2024.

The Kentucky Energy and Environment Cabinet is seeking grant applications from county or metro-government entities for local road projects that utilize rubber-modified asphalt, which uses rubber from finely ground waste tires.

Pyrum Innovations AG (Pyrum), a pioneer in the sustainable recycling of end-of-life tires based on its patented pyrolysis technology, has received ISCC Plus certification for the recovered carbon black it produces. In September last year, the pyrolysis oil produced by the company was certified as a sustainable output material.
