According to the latest press release by Tyre Stewardship Australia (TSA), each year the equivalent of over 58 million passenger tires reach their end-of-life in Australia. TSA says that throughout the life cycle of these tires, it is important to consider the environmental and health impacts, including tire and road wear particles that may be generated while driving tires on the roads, and from tire-derived materials when tires are recovered at the end of their life.

New Zealand’s government has approved regulations which will change the way the country manages its end-of-life tires. They outline how regulated product stewardship, through the Tyrewise scheme, will work for the first time in Aotearoa. A key part of the regulation is replacing the existing ad hoc ‘environmental’ or disposal charges New Zealanders currently face when disposing of old tires with a tire stewardship fee.

Incorporated in 2018, Freee Recycle Limited is focused on the production of reusable, eco-friendly rubber moulded products from recycled end-of-life tires in Nigeria. The world makes nearly 2 billion tires yearly, while old ones pile up. End-of-life tires can act as breeding grounds for malaria and cause fires. Therefore, Freee Recycle aims to recycle every one of her Nigeria’s discarded tires.

On October 24, in affiliation with Nextgen Rubber Leaders, Tyre Stewardship Australia (TSA) brought together members of the tire industry and researchers for a knowledge-sharing symposium. Local and international young professionals shared how their work challenges conventional thinking on rubber and explored the innovation occurring globally across the rubber industry.

According to the company’s latest press release, Scandinavian Enviro Systems’ (publ) interim CFO Staffan Kullberg, has notified that he intends to leave Enviro to take up a position at a company in his hometown Stockholm.

Shercom Industries, a tire processor in Saskatchewan, is awaiting a potential contract offer from Tire Stewardship of Saskatchewan (TSS) following an independent review by a provincial expert. The contract between Shercom and TSS concluded in 2020, leading to the cessation of Shercom's tire processing operations. Subsequently, TSS offered a contract to Crumb Rubber Manufacturing, a U.S.-based company, for tire processing in southern Saskatchewan. Shercom has now positioned itself as a contender for a contract to handle tire processing in the northern part of the province.

A few weeks ago, Rosehill team conducted extensive blast testing on its solid rubber Ballistic Blocks at a military testing facility in Europe. The rigorous process involved configuring different setups with the Ballistic Blocks and placing 81mm mortar rounds at distances ranging from 20cm to 2 meters. The mortars were remotely detonated to assess how well the Ballistic Blocks resisted high-impact blasts. After detonation, a thorough examination revealed that the blocks effectively absorbed all shrapnel, preventing any penetration.
