With the support of international organisations in tyre recycling, Swedish Tyre Recycling (SDAB) has implemented the End-of-Life Tyre Research Portal (ELTRP), the world’s first research portal for recycled tyre rubber. Recycled tyre rubber is a thoroughly researched material, and the new research portal fulfils a need by collecting scientific facts about the material in an accessible and efficient manner. Recycled tyre rubber is a material surrounded by perceptions and questions regarding its content and utility. On the heels of its November 2023 commitment to gather information on the common tire additive 6PPD - and its chemical by-product 6PPD-quinone – that could be used to inform a subsequent regulatory action, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency announced today the publication of a draft testing method (EPA Method 1634) that will enable government agencies, Tribes, and other groups to determine where and when 6PPD-quinone is present in local stormwater and surface waters. The 6PPD-quinone draft method is now available at https://www.epa.gov/cwa-methods. “We heard from the Tribes and other governmental agencies that one of the highest priorities for the agency should be the rapid development of a test for 6PPD-quinone,” said Casey Sixkiller, Regional Administrator of the agency’s Region 10 office in Seattle.

Enviro's CEO Fredrik Emilson, chairman Alf Blomqvist, and board member Peter Möller were present as the construction of Enviro Systems' recycling plant in Uddevalla officially began today. Together with Uddevalla's municipal councilor Martin Pettersson and the property owner Fratera's CEO Peter Karlsson, they held a symbolic groundbreaking ceremony with the assistance of an excavator.

The construction of Scandinavian Enviro Systems’ end-of-life tire recycling plant in Uddevalla has receieved starting notice. As previously communicated, the company expects the construction of the plant to start during the first quarter 2024. It is the municipality of Uddevalla that has notified about the permit in a letter. On February 7, Enviro, Antin Infrastructure Partners and Michelin announced the final investment decision for the plant and that the joint venture, formed between Enviro and Antin, has started to place orders for key materials and machinery for the plant.

According to a recent Virginia Mercury article, Republican Delegate Thomas Garrett's proposed legislation aims to address issues related to tire recycling in Virginia. The bill, which recently passed a House subcommittee, seeks to increase the state's fee on new tire sales to support recycling efforts. Additionally, it mandates tire producers to register with the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) and utilize licensed haulers for transporting end-of-life tires to approved recycling facilities.

According to InsideWaste's article, Australia's New South Wales (NSW) Government's efforts to integrate recycled materials, particularly rubber from end-of-life tires, into procurement processes, aiming to advance Australia's circular economy. By mandating the use of recycled materials in government procurement policies, the initiative seeks to bolster demand for such materials and support the nation's resource recovery industry. James Erickson, a Senior Project Officer for Climate Change and Sustainability within the NSW Government, emphasizes the focus on materials with low recycling rates, including plastics, paper, cardboard, and tires.

On February 7, the joint venture between Scandinavian Enviro Systems (publ) (Enviro), Michelin and Antin Infrastructure Partners made the final investment decision regarding the construction of the end of life tire recycling plant in Uddevalla, Sweden. The joint venture has secured equity financing for the construction of the plant and signed multi-year agreements for the supply of end-of-life tires and offtakes for the recovered carbon black and oil products. The signed agreements regarding deliveries of recovered materials have a total value of approximately MEUR 180 (SEK 2 billion) over the contract period, which varies between 5 and 10 years.
