This summer, England started trials of the new rubberized asphalt developed from a mix that includes recycled tires. The asphalt mix is produced by a British company Tarmac. According to Tarmac, a new road surface using recycled tires is on trial on the M1 motorway by Highways England. If successful, it is hoped that this new method will take a huge step towards tackling the millions of end-of-life tires piling up every year.

Scandinavian Enviro Systems AB (Enviro) – a renowned tire pyrolysis equipment manufacturer and operator – reports about signing a term sheet with TreadCraft Carbon LLC, Buffalo, NY, USA, on the key parts of an agreement to establish a jointly owned plant for the recovery of materials from used tires based on Enviro’s pyrolysis technology. According to the Enviro, the two parties have now agreed on the main conditions for a plant deal. A final agreement is expected to be finalized during the second half of 2019 and would entail the sale of a pyrolysis plant, worth approximately between EUR 25 and 30 million, as well as license revenue and future profits.

Tyre Stewardship Australia (TSA) reports that a high-tech paving material made from recycled tires has been installed by the City of Mitcham as part of a major field trial in sustainable urban drainage design. According to TSA, it is the first time that a permeable pavement made from 50% used tires will be installed in a full-scale trial and tested under various traffic loads.

ANRPC recently announced the release of its new Natural Rubber Trends and Statistics. Based on ANRPC’s preliminary estimates, the world production of natural rubber (NR) registered a fall of 6.5% (4.930 million tons) during the first five months of 2019, on a year-to-year basis. Meanwhile, the world consumption recorded 5.789 million tons, 0.9% increase (5.376 million tons) during the same period last year. This favorable market fundamentals have kept the sentiment in NR market strong despite the tension between China and US, ANRPC reports.

French waste tire authority supplies Africa with shredded tires by sea

5.300 tons of tires shredded by Aliapur – French waste tire management authority – were shipped on July 11, 2019 on board the bulk carrier “Notos” from Dunkirk to Dakar. The goal for the waste tire management authority was to supply alternative fuel to the Sococim de Rufisque cement plant in Senegal using the waterway and the sea. Senegal becomes the first country in West Africa to receive tire-derived fuel supplies from Aliapur. It is also the first time that Aliapur operates from Dunkirk, a sea and river port with the capacity to absorb the storage in transit of 5,300 tons of TDF.
